Carl's Jr. parent company, CKE Restaurants Holdings Inc. signed a master franchise agreement with CJ's QSR Group to expand the burger brand's Australian presence, which CKE said in a news release marks an acceleration of international growth for the brand which opened its thousandth international store this year in Spain.

Since introducing Carl's Jr. to Australia five years ago in Bateau Bay, New South Wales, the brand has grown to nearly 30 restaurants throughout Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and New South Wales. Carl's Jr. said its plans include the addition of 27 more stores there this year toward a goal of 200 restaurants in Australia over the next 10 years.

"We are thrilled to deepen our partnership with CJ's QSR as we expand across Australia and build upon the momentum that we've created with our Carl's Jr. fans since opening our first location in Bateau Bay," Mike Woida, president, CKE International, said in the release. "CJ's QSR has shown incredible commitment and dedication to bringing our iconic burgers into the Australian community, as have our other Carl's Jr. franchise partners in the territory. CJ's QSR will continue to own, operate and expand their existing corporate restaurants while seeking to offer qualified Carl's Jr. sub-franchise candidates the opportunity to join our growing franchise community throughout Australia."

Woida will keynote the Nov. 9 #QSRNext event, designed to give restaurant executives an afternoon of brands' input on the top of-the-moment subjects in the restaurant industry. Carl's Jr. is based in Franklin, Tennessee, along with its parent, CKE Restaurant Holdings.
