Carl's Jr., Wendy's add new chicken offerings
May 6, 2010
While several burger chains are focusing on the promotion of National Hamburger Month, Carl's Jr. and Wendy's have capitalized on existing platforms to push out new chicken offerings.
Carl's Jr. is welcoming summer with its newest offering: the Teriyaki Chicken Sandwich. The new sandwich features charbroiled chicken breast, sweet-and-savory teriyaki glaze, charbroiled Dole pineapple, Swiss cheese, lettuce, red onion, tomato, mayonnaise and a honey-wheat bun.
The Teriyaki Chicken Sandwich is available at Carl's Jr. for $3.89, or as a combo meal with fries and a drink for $6.39. Prices may vary by location.
The Teriyaki Chicken Sandwich leverages the popularity of Carl's Jr.'s Teriyaki Burger, which became a permanent menu item around this time last year. In 2007, Carl's Jr. was the first major quick-service restaurant chain to offer a teriyaki burger with grilled pineapple — an offering more typically found in casual dining burger restaurants.
To support the new Teriyaki Chicken Sandwich, Carl's Jr. will run the "Hula" ad, featuring a hungry surfer and his hula girl. The Hills star Audrina Patridge is back on the beach in the "Bikini" commercial to promote the Teriyaki Burger.
Wendy's spices up boneless wings
Wendy's has added a new sauce for its boneless wings. The Spicy Chipotle Boneless Wings feature a sauce made with chipotle peppers, dark chili powder and a touch of amber honey.
The company is supporting the new flavor with a commercial inspired by its "You know when it's real." An e-club alert offers a $1 off downloadable coupon.
