Church's Chicken CEO performs first 'Random Acts of Goodness'

May 17, 2009

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Church's Chicken president and CEO, Harsha V. Agadi, kicked off the brand's Random Acts of Goodness campaign May 14 in San Antonio, Texas, surprising San Antonio resident Paula Salas with $1,000 cash at the Church's restaurant on Zarzamora Street.

Immediately following the presentation, the San Antonio mayor's office proclaimed May 14th "Random Acts of Goodness Day," encouraging the San Antonio community to follow Church's lead in giving back to their community in a way that could make a difference — no matter the size or type of gesture.

"Church's Chicken wants to challenge industry peers to pay it forward in authentic gestures that truly resonate with customers," Agadi said. "Instead of gimmicky food giveaways, we are giving back to our community in a way that speaks to the current economic climate and brand's value appreciation to their community."

Salas, the first recipient to experience one of Church's Random Acts of Goodness, is a fifth-grade teacher who will begin teaching at Kipp Aspire Charter School in the fall. She plans to use some of the money to help pay off her student loans incurred while attending the University of Texas at San Antonio and to decorate her new classroom.

For those wondering where the next $1,000 "no-strings" Random Act of Goodness gift will occur, Church's is dropping clues on their @ChurchsChicken Twitter page. During the initiative, Church's has challenged its customers to show that they know "what good is" and upload their random acts of goodness via tweets, video, podcast or photos on the Church's Web page.

Along with the clues for the next 30 days, the company will add $1 to its 'dollar per follower' pledge for each new follower that joins the @ChurchsChicken. The brand's goal is to obtain 10,000 followers within the next 30 days.
