Church's Chicken has raised enough cash from its Scholars coupon books to give 240 students $1,000 scholarships each. That surpasses the chain's goal of 210 students by 14 percent, according to a company press relesae.
"Being able to help dedicated students fulfill their dreams of going to college isn't something on which we place limits," Church’s Partners Foundation President Edward Brett, said in a news release. "So this is a true 'bigger is better' scenario. The more money we raise, the more students we can award scholarships. It's that simple."
This is the fourth year for the program, which helps kids nationwide pay for college and other expenses, while giving diners cash off their Church's orders. Each purchase of a $1 coupon book offers $20 worth of Church's deals for customers.
"Education is what it's all about," said Franchisee Noor Samji. "I love participating in this fundraiser because it brings good will to my restaurants. My restaurants get really competitive about the number of booklets they sell and get excited about the fundraiser."
