Cleaning products found in tainted Dairy Queen malt mix
March 12, 2009
Ferndale Record-Journal (Wash.): The Whatcom County, Wash., Health Department has completed tests on the malt mix believed to have been tainted by a now former employee at a Ferndale, Wash., Dairy Queen. Two customers became ill after drinking the contaminated malts, and the employee quit after the investigation began. She was arrested last week.
The health department confirmed that the malt powder contained sodium hydroxide and other chemicals. The store manager said that cleaning products have always been kept separate from food preparation areas but will now be stored in a locked cabinet overseen by store managers.
