Cousins Subs dubs 4 scholarship recipients

May 18, 2018

Wisconsin-based Cousins Subs and its Make It Better Foundation has given four Wisconsin high school seniors a total of $20,000 in scholarships as part of its sixth annual Wisconsin Sports Awards Scholarship Contest.

First place winner, receiving $7,500 include Oshkosh resident, Adam McAvoy and Oconto Falls' Stephanie Peitersen. Runners-up, receiving $2,500 are Sussex resident, Brian Wiedenfeld and Racine's Sofia Scekic.

Cousins announced the scholarship finalists during surprise visits at their high schools, where the Cousins' team shared the news in front of the recipients' classmates, family members and school staff. All four finalists are to be recognized at the Wisconsin Sports Awards event, which is to be held in Milwaukee in August.

The Make It Better Foundation received nearly 500 applications from Wisconsin high school senior athletes. The four finalists were selected due to their academic acumen, participation in Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association-sanctioned sports, community involvement, and their pursuit of continuing education.

The scholarships are funded through Cousins' Make It Better Foundation--a nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to funding three areas vital to any community: health and wellness, hunger and youth education.
