Dairy Queen pulls out the big guns for Children's Miracle Network partnership

July 21, 2010

Horse and carriage; love and marriage; kids and ice cream. Dairy Queen has mastered the latter formula, sponsoring various initiatives specifically to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network, a nonprofit organization that raises money for 170 children's hospitals around the United States.

On Aug. 5, participating Dairy Queens and DQ Grill & Chill locations will hold Miracle Treat Day, donating $1 of every Blizzard sold to the Children's Miracle Network.

The first Miracle Treat Day was held in 2006, raising more than $3.5 million.

The partnership has since grown. In April, Dairy Queen launched its Blizzardmobile, a mobile truck touring 25 cities throughout the United States and Canada, distributing the new Mini Blizzard and raising awareness and funds for the Children's Miracle Network.

Also for this year's drive, investor Warren Buffet, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, has jumped on board for the cause, teaming up with Dairy Queen to autograph a larger version of the brand's iconic red spoon to be auctioned off on eBay.

Bidding for the giant signed spoon is now open and will run through July 30, and proceeds will directly benefit the Children's Miracle Network.

Dairy Queen is one of the top 10 contributors to Children's Miracle Network, having raised more than $81 million since 1984.
