Dairy Queen's 6,200 units are located in 20 countries around the world, but the brand doesn't exist in New York City. That is soon set to change.
John Gainor, CEO of International Dairy Queen, told Bloomberg Television's Deirdre Bolton that the brand is coming to Manhattan this summer.
"That's really big news," he said. "The first unit will open in the Staten Island Ferry Station and then later this year, we'll open in Manhattan and hopefully by the end of the year, we'll have several units open in Manhattan."
Gainor said the company recently signed a multiunit agreement to bring the brand to the Big Apple.
New summer offerings
The Dairy Queen system also announced it is celebrating National Ice Cream Month in July with the new Chocolate Candy Shop Blizzard Treat – featuring assorted mini chocolates filled with hazelnut crème, fudge and caramel blended with dark, cocoa fudge and DQ vanilla soft serve.
In addition, the Dairy Queen system also is offering a combo meal featuring the limited-time-offer Sweet Apple BBQ GrillBurger, which is layered with bacon, onion slices, leaf lettuce, a slice of thick-cut tomato, pepper jack cheese and topped with a sweet apple BBQ sauce that features real chunks of apple, all served on a home-style bakery bun. The Sweet Apple BBQ GrillBurger combo meal is served with french fries and a beverage.
"Nothing says summer better than ice cream and barbeque and at Dairy Queen restaurants we have it covered," said Barry Westrum, executive vice president of Marketing for ADQ. "The Chocolate Candy Shop Blizzard Treat and Sweet Apple BBQ GrillBurger are just two of the innovative new items introduced this year. With a focus on consumer value, product quality and menu variety, we are welcoming our customers in for great eats and cool treats that they won't get anywhere else."
