DC-area Subway operators raise $350K for Diabetes Association

October 20, 2014

The McLean, Virginia-based Subway Development Corporation of Washington has donated a check for $350,000 to the American Diabetes Association. The SDC covers restaurants in Virginia, Delaware, most of Maryland and the District of Columbia.

The donation marks the fourth year that SDC, and the more than 1,250 Subway restaurants that are part of the SDC, has designated the American Diabetes Association as their charity of choice, bringing the total charitable contribution to more than $1.4 million during that time, according to a news release.

"Our support of the American Diabetes Association is a real team effort and a great way to give back in a meaningful way to the communities that support us," David Dickerson, VP of Operations SDC, said in the release. "Everyone at SDC is very proud of the level of fund raising that our franchisees and their teams are able to achieve each year for this important cause."

The funds were raised through two major annual events, the sale of Stop Diabetes hands and the SDC's 17th annual golf tournament.
