Del Taco burrito sales to aid fire relief efforts

November 15, 2007

LAKE FOREST, Calif. — Del Taco will donate to fire relief efforts 25 cents from the sale of each Spicy Chicken Burrito sold until Christmas, company officials have announced. "This is a time when all of us need to come together," said Shirlene Lopez, Del Taco's president and chief operating officer. "The devastation caused by the fires will make this an especially difficult holiday season and many people will face challenges for some time to come. Del Taco has been part of these communities for more than 40 years and we want to help families rebuild their lives." Donations will be made at all southern California company-owned Del Taco's and participating franchise restaurants. Lopez said the proceeds would be specifically earmarked to benefit families and children. The company hopes to donate $100,000 to the fire victims. Already, about $50,000 in food and meal gift certificates has been contributed to shelters, to individuals who have been displaced by the fires and to firefighters.
Del Taco also will launch a new ad, focusing on its Spicy Chicken Burrito and promoting the fact that the popular menu item now has twice the chicken at the same price of $1.99. The burrito comes with chunks of marinated grilled chicken, rice, slow-cooked beans, green sauce and grated cheddar cheese.
