Del Taco leans into 90s nostalgia with return of Big Fat Tacos, Del Flipz

Del Taco has launched a variety of limited-time, 90s-inspired classics, according to a press release.

The throwback lineup features the return of the Big Fat Taco, which is served on a buttery toasted flatbread and layered with house-grated cheddar cheese, shredded lettuce and diced tomatoes. The items are available in five varieties: seasoned beef with salsa casera, grilled chicken with creamy chipotle sauce, carne asada steak with secret sauce and two breakfast versions featuring egg, cheese and bacon.

Accompanying the menu relaunch is a retro-inspired collectible called Del Flipz, modeled after the milk bottle cap tabletop craze of the 1990s. Customers who purchase any Big Fat Tacos meal can receive a set of the collectible caps while supplies last.

"We're leaning into 90s nostalgia in a big way with the return of our Big Fat Tacos and Del Flipz promotion. Our fans have been asking for the return of Big Fat Tacos for years, and we're excited to bring these favorites back in beef, chicken, carne asada steak and breakfast varieties," Noah Chillingworth, chief marketing officer of Del Taco, said in the press release. "In the 90s, Del Taco's collectible milk caps were a phenomenon, so we're excited to tap into that lore with Del Flipz."

The limited-time menu also includes the return of Dragon Fruit Blueberry Poppers and Mini Sweet Cream Churros. The Poppers feature real dragon fruit pieces and blueberry-flavored popping boba pearls, served in lemonade, Sprite or as a vanilla shake. The churros are dessert-sized treats filled with sweet cream and dusted with cinnamon sugar.

Del Taco is offering two for $6 deals on the grilled chicken and breakfast varieties of the Big Fat Tacos at participating locations.

The brand operates nearly 600 restaurants in 17 states.
