Denver man fights arrest over Sonic Happy Hour dispute

February 11, 2010

A Denver man spent more than $7,000 in legal fees defending himself against criminal charges brought about last February when he became angry after being overcharged for drinks during Sonic's happy hour, according to CBS4 News.

Sonic offers half-priced drinks at its stores from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. daily. According to the story, Ray Garcia became angry with a manager after he did not receive a discount for his drinks because of a time discrepancy in the store's point-of-sale system, resulting in the police being called and then his arrest.

Sonic Corp. said in the statement that the store "missed an opportunity to take good care of the customer regardless of who was right" but defended the employees' calling of police because of the customer's belligerence. The case was dismissed in December.
