A Detroit Popeyes franchise group is putting an extra $5 an hour into the pay of employees at the group's 20 locations of the QSR in the Motor City. The addition was made as a way of thanking and paying back the workers who've carried their restaurants through the many restrictions and changes brought about by COVID-19, according to a news release.

According to the release about 80% of the coronavirus cases identified in Michigan have come from the Detroit area. The Essential Workers Bonus Pay recognizes that risk, and also ushers in the group's plans to hire more personnel for its stores.

"We know times are tough and I am so appreciative of all the hard work our Popeyes employees have displayed everyday throughout this crisis," Tanathan Nelson, vice president of Operations Detroit Metro, said in the release. "Our goal is to ensure our company's employees are being taken care of while they continue to show up and make sure our community has hot, fresh food when they need it."

Popeyes has also partnered with No Kid Hungry to help feed the children of America. Guests can add a $1 donation to their contactless delivery order when checking out on the Popeyes app, and the brand will match the donation. Popeyes has more than 3,300 outlets worldwide.
