(Washington, DC)The National Restaurant Association today announced that the nation's restaurant industry is coming together to offer its support for those impacted by the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf Coast region. On October 5, the restaurant industry will participate in a nationwide, industry-wide national dine out event, Dine for America, to help raise money to be donated to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. A Web site dedicated to this event was launched today and can be viewed at www.dineforamerica.org.Interested restaurant owners and operators can get involved by hosting a Dine for America event and donating all or a portion of the day's sales to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Foodservice suppliers can also get involved by donating time, effort and products. Restaurant employees can participate by volunteering to work on October 5, or donating a portion of their tips. Patrons can show support by dining at a participating restaurant on October 5, or making a direct donation. For more information or to register and review a menu of options on how to participate, visit www.dineforamerica.org, or www.restaurant.org."When our nation experienced the unimaginable and tragic events of September 11, the nation's restaurants quickly mobilized and offered assistance for the victims and families of those who suffered that terrible tragedy with Dine for America. Today, we call upon our industry and the public to once again show their support for our fellow Americans, the victims and families who were impacted by the catastrophic events of Hurricane Katrina," said Steven C. Anderson, president and chief executive officer of the National Restaurant Association. "We have seen an unbelievable outpouring of support from restaurants across the nation who want to participate in this national effort. The momentum during this industry-wide event is incredible, and will have a tremendous impact in helping those affected by Hurricane Katrina.""This is an opportunity for the industry to come together for a common cause and help our neighbors in the South in a time of desperate need. While short-term relief efforts are ongoing, the long-term effects are yet to be known and the rebuilding of the Gulf Coast region will take a long time. Not only do these Americans need help today, but they will need help throughout the fall and likely, the year ahead," said Steve Stoddard, CEO, Restaurants Unlimited, Inc.In 2001, Dine for America participants collectively raised more than $20 million for the victims of September 11. The Association hopes to exceed that goal with the event on October 5. A Web site, www.dineforamerica.org was launched today to provide resources and materials for restaurant companies wishing to participate in the nationwide, industry-wide fundraiser for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.Participating organizations* to-date include:Abuela'sAmerican Culinary FederationApplebee'sB.D.'s MongolianBrinker International (Chili's Grill & Bar, Romano's Macaroni Grill, On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina, Maggiano's Little Italy and Corner Bakery Cafe)Buca di BeppoCarlson Restaurants Worldwide (T.G.I.
