Doc Popcorn grows nontraditional portfolio at Palace Entertainment venues

May 30, 2013

Doc Popcorn plans to open approximately 15 new locations in Palace Entertainment venues across the country. The announcement follows the launch of Doc Popcorn's first PopCart unit at the Lake Compounce Amusement Park, a Palace Entertainment venue located in Bristol, Conn.

Palace Entertainment is one of the largest leisure park operators in the country, hosting more than 13 million visitors annually at 40 locations.

"We are excited to partner with Doc Popcorn to offer a unique popcorn experience at some of our largest theme parks, water parks and entertainment centers across the country," said Albert L. Cabuco, vice president of Food and Beverage at Palace Entertainment. "Doc Popcorn is in keeping with our mission to provide family-friendly and affordable offerings to our guests."

The first of the new locations opened on May 15, in the Kennywood Amusement Park near Pittsburgh, Pa., and a second unit opened over Memorial Day weekend at the Raging Waters Amusement Park in San Jose, Calif. This move is a part of Doc Popcorn's strategic growth plan to target nontraditional real estate sites, to continue extending the brand beyond its mall-based roots.

"Alternative venues are a huge focus for us right now, and we continue to build strategic partnerships with some of the largest entertainment venues in the country," said Rob Israel, co-founder of Doc Popcorn. "We have increased popcorn sales by as much as 10 times in these entertainment venues, so there is certainly a demand for our better-for-you product offering."
