Doc Popcorn opens first San Diego location

April 10, 2011

Doc Popcorn has opened at Westfield Plaza Camino Real Mall in San Diego, its second location in the Southern California region. The new unit is operated by Jon and Cris Kirkland and their son Austin.

A third Doc Popcorn is in development for the San Diego area and will be located at the Westfield North County Mall in Escondido.

Doc Popcorn is the only fresh-popped, all-natural flavored popcorn franchise. It uses non-GMO, whole-grain kernels in 100-percent corn oil and offers a wide variety of flavors made from cheesy cheddar and sweet butter to sinfully cinnamon and hoppin' jalapeño.

"We are thrilled to see Jon, Cris and Austin open their Doc Popcorn location. Westfield Plaza Camino Real Mall is a great venue for our brand," said Rob Israel, CEO and co-founder, along with his wife, Renée. "It's a business that driven professionals can feel great about running, and it offers a product that consumers love to snack on when they're out and about."

In addition to Westfield Plaza Camino Real Mall, the Kirklands plan to open additional Doc Popcorn locations at San Diego event venues.

Doc Popcorn's franchising program launched in mid-2009 and has awarded more than 30 franchise agreements in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Missouri, Alaska, Virginia and Washington D.C.
