Domino's will now deliver to some 150,000 outdoor locations, or "Domino's Hotspots" as they are referred to in the company's app or website, following a successful test in outdoor-centric Miami, Florida, last fall. U.S. parks and landmarks are among the new deliverable locations, a news release said.
"Now customers spending time at some of our new Domino's Hotspots locations, like Tommy Lasorda Field of Dreams in Los Angeles or even next to the James Brown statue in Augusta, Georgia, can have a pizza conveniently delivered to them, thanks to our innovative Domino's Delivery Hotspots," Domino's USA President Russell Weiner, said in the release.
Delivery has become an increasingly competitive front among the already overflowing number of restaurant industry players and that holds doubly true for pizza brands which have long considered delivery key to their daily "bread and butter." Now with the growing number of other deliverable food choices through third-party services for brands like McDonald's entering the fray, pizza chains are under new pressure to stay in the race.
Domino's said that its' drivers will arrive curbside to deliver to outdoor customers at any of the many thousands of hotspots. Among the deliverable location offerings are everything from national monuments to local dog parts, meaning soon you won't have to haul supplies on your back for that walk in the woods. Instead, you'll only need a cell signal and smartphone to put a little pepperoni in your hike or beach-bathing.
"We listened to customers and their need for pizza delivery to locations without a traditional address," Weiner said.
Domino's Hotspots are available for online-only orders and require location detection to identify nearby hotspots from your phone or computer. Once a customer's location has been determined, local Domino's Hotspots that are available for delivery will appear on a map for customers to select.
Before checking out, customers can leave instructions to help the driver find them. After completing their order, customers will receive text message alerts about their Domino's Hotspot delivery progress, including a final text that gives the estimated arrival of the driver at the hand-off spot.
