DoorDash has decided to discontinue Chowbotics, the robotic salad maker vending machine, the company announced on its website. The machine, which featured technology that reduced the risk of foodborne illness by keeping ingredients in separate containers which could be replenished regularly, was placed in hospitals, corporate cafeterias and other locations.

"We have decided to cease operation of the Chowbotics business, effective Aug. 31st, 2022," DoorDash said in an email statement to this website. "At DoorDash, we create an environment to build new products and set high standards to determine when to scale, continue or cut back investments. We're always looking for new ways to serve our merchants, exceed consumers' increasingly higher expectations, and complement our logistics infrastructure.

"In short, DoorDash remains committed to the robotics space. We're iterating on this particular product and use case as part of our regular innovation process. We are working with each Chowbotics partner to ensure they have support through the transition."

DoorDash manufactured its own food robot prior to acquiring Chowbotics in 2021.

Chowbotics launched in 2014, according to The Verge.
