DQ and Girl Scout cookies pair up for LTO blizzard flavor

June 17, 2008

MINNEAPOLIS — Dairy Queen has announced it is merging its popular frozen treat, the Blizzard, with the best-selling Girl Scout cookie, the Thin Mint. The new combination will be the featured Blizzard of the Month for July and be available at all Dairy Queen and DQ Grill & Chill locations nationwide on July 1, 2008.

The Girl Scouts Thin Mint Cookie Blizzard is made of soft serve blended with Girl Scouts Thin Mint Cookie pieces and a Crème de Menthe topping. The average price of the Girl Scouts Thin Mint Cookie Blizzard is $2.75 for the 12 ounce, $3.20 for the 16 ounce and $3.65 for the 21 ounce. The flavor also is available in ice cream cakes. The average price of a Blizzard cake is $19.99 for the 8-inch and $22.50 for the 12-inch.

The new Blizzard is a result of a licensing agreement between Dairy Queen and Girl Scouts of the USA.

"This is fun and exciting new product news for Dairy Queen and the treat industry because it's never been done before," said Michael Keller, chief brand officer for International Dairy Queen Inc. "Dairy Queen and Girl Scouts have definitely broken new ground with this new Blizzard flavor."

As part of Dairy Queen's Girl Scouts' partnership, Girl Scout members also will have the opportunity to develop their business and leadership skills at Dairy Queen locations by taking behind-the-scenes tours, receiving tips from Dairy Queen professionals on how to run a successful business and learning about the product development process, including how to make a Blizzard. Girl Scout councils will encourage both girls and adults to re-register and register as Girl Scout members during the promotion.
