November 3, 2017

International Dairy Queen Inc. has opened its first DQ Grill & Chill in South Korea. The store in the Daehak-ro area of Seoul is the first of 50 planned openings for the country within the next five years. Locations will open soon in Itaewon, Gangnam and Hongdae, a news release said.

Menu items available in South Korea include Blizzard Treats in Asian-inspired flavors such as Green Tea Red Bean as well as a beverage platform that includes soft drinks, ades, smoothies, coffees and teas.

"We continue to expand the DQ brand in Asia," International Dairy Queen President and CEO John Gainor said in the release. "We have partnered with a franchisee that is a veteran of the food business and has an experienced team already in place. We look forward to introducing DQ Grill & Chill restaurants to our fans in South Korea."

Dairy Queen Corp., a subsidiary of American Dairy Queen Corp., has signed a multi-unit development agreement for restaurants in South Korea with the privately held M2G USA Investment Inc.

The DQ system has more than 6,800 locations, more than 2,300 of which are outside the U.S.
