Two brands that capitalize on creamy frozen dessert offerings are making hay while the sun shines and the consumers yearn for something cold and sweet. The first, that doyenne of the dipped cone — Dairy Queen — is building its next big promotion around the first official day of summer, June 21, which also happens to be the longest day (as in most daylight hours) of the year.
The brand is pushing its mobile app on that day where DQ loyalty customers can get a free small regular or dipped cone with any purchase. The company is also using the start of summer to prompt customers to enter a mobile-based game and sweepstakes called The hAPPiest Sweeps Ever, which will award winners with family vacations and gift cards.
Over at renowned frozen custard brand, Culver's, they're hoping to pull in sweating summer customers with a quartet of new custard flavors, including Creamy Lemon Crumble, Midnight Toffee, Dulce de Leche Cheesecake and Devil's Food Cake.
The first new "Flavor of the Day," Creamy Lemon Crumble, hit stores June 10, with the following three creations to debut on the tenth day of each of the following three months.
"When dreaming up new Flavors of the Day, we're not only inspired by what our guests crave, but we're also looking at unexpected combinations that will surprise and delight them," said Quinn Adkins, Culver's director of menu development. "Some of these new flavors have been in development for more than three years, so we're thrilled to share them with our guests this summer."
All 700-plus locations of the chain in 25 states will feature the new flavors.
