Dunkin' Brands marks 15,000th store milestone
June 14, 2009
CANTON, Mass. — Dunkin' Brands, parent company of Dunkin' Donuts and Baskin-Robbins, has officially opened its 15,000th store worldwide in Raleigh, N.C. To honor the milestone, the company is thanking customers for more than 60 years of support with special celebrations in select cities throughout the world.
To commemorate the opening of the 15,000th store, Dunkin' Brands CEO Nigel Travis, president and chief brand officer Will Kussell and Baskin-Robbins chief brand officer Srinivas Kumar will serve customers donuts, coffee and soft-serve ice cream for the special price of 15 cents today at 3:00 p.m. Eastern time at the Dunkin' Donuts and Baskin-Robbins Express located at 8170 Glenwood Ave. in Raleigh.
The News & Observer (Raleigh, N.C.) reports that the Express location will serve Baskin-Robbins new soft-serve ice cream rather than its traditional hard ice cream. Dunkin' Brands CEO Nigel Travis said the Raleigh store is a test for the new concept and the opportunity to boost afternoon sales with ice cream. Baskin-Robbins hard-scoop ice cream is available by the quart or in ice cream cakes.

As part of the ceremony at the 15,000th store, NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Greg Biffle and NC State head football coach Tom O'Brien also will be on hand to personally serve customers, beginning at approximately 3:15 p.m. Eastern time. Biffle will surprise two lucky customers — one each at the counter and drive-thru — with 15 months' worth of coffee and ice cream.
The very first U.S. Dunkin' Donuts store at 543 Southern Artery in Quincy, Mass., will commemorate the occasion by selling coffee and donuts for 15 cents from 3 to 5 p.m. At the same time, the new Baskin-Robbins Café 31 at Patriot Place in Foxborough, Mass., will offer soft-serve ice cream cones for 15 cents from 3 to 5 p.m.
