Dunkin' Brands names new general counsel

November 30, 2009

Dunkin' Brands, parent company of Dunkin' Donuts and Baskin-Robbins, has announced that Rich Emmett has joined the company as senior vice president and general counsel. He will serve on the Dunkin' Brands executive leadership team and will report directly to Dunkin' Brands' CEO Nigel Travis.

"Rich has extensive general counsel experience at big-brand, franchised, food service companies," Travis said in a news release. "His management experience, business as well as legal acumen, and impressive track record in the development of strong franchisee relationships will be invaluable to us as we move our brands forward. We are delighted to welcome Rich to the senior leadership team."

Before joining Dunkin' Brands, Emmett was executive vice president, chief legal officer and secretary at QCE Holding LLC (Quiznos), where he was responsible for the oversight of the legal department, board management and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.

Prior to Quiznos, Emmett served as SVP, general counsel and secretary for Papa Johns International Inc. He earned his juris doctorate from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary and his bachelor's degree from Colgate University. Emmett will be relocating to the Boston area from Denver.

"I am delighted to be joining Dunkin' Brands, a company with two of the world's best-loved brands and one of the premier franchising concepts in the world," Emmett said in a news release. "I look forward to working with the leadership team and our franchisee community to continue to better serve our customers and deliver results around the world."

Emmet replaces former chief legal counsel Stephen Horn. Emmet's hiring follows the announcements of several other executive personnel changes, including John Costello as new chief marketer, Paul Twohig as new brand operations officer for Dunkin' Donuts. At Baskin-Robbins, new hires include Sue Thirlwall in the newly created position of brand operating officer and Brad Wahl in the newly created position of vice president of marketing USA.

Dunkin' Donuts president and chief brand officer William Kussell previously announced he will leave his position by the end of the year, and Travis will add the role of president to his duties.
