Dunkin' celebrates other kind of 'holey' day: National Donut Day

May 31, 2019

June 7 is National Donut Day, and Dunkin' is giving away doughnuts all day with a beverage purchase, a news release said.

Dunkin' customers may choose from the brand's Boston Kreme, Glazed, Glazed Chocolate and Strawberry Frosted with Sprinkles, among others.

"Doughnuts are part of the American story and hold a special place in our popular culture, so we believe a day for donuts is a day for America," Dunkin' U.S. Chief Marketing Officer Tony Weisman. "This National Donut Day, we encourage Americans to take a moment to 'Dunk Out,' recharge and enjoy their favorite donut variety at Dunkin'"

Dunkin' worked with on-demand consumer insights company, Toluna, to survey 1,000 Americans about how they prefered to eat doughnuts. Here are some of the findings:

  • Most preferred thing to do while digging into a doughnut? Checking and answering emails.
  • Most preferred person to share a doughnut with? A spouse or significant other.
  • Is it okay to halve your doughnut? Yes, it's good to share.
  • What's the best item with toppings to post or see on Instagram? Doughnuts beat out pizza and ice cream.
  • How should you spell these circular and sweet fried dough confections? "Donut" was the preferred by the public, but "doughnut" is preferred by journalists and dictionaries, which is why this article contains both spellings and has left at least this reporter in a state of befuddlement.
