The success of a July Beyond Sausage sandwich test at Dunkin' in Manhattan, has prompted the chain to push up plans for the national launch of the offering to Nov. 6 in the U.S., a news release said. The move makes Dunkin' the first national QSR to offer the plant-based breakfast sandwich.

The item features an egg, American cheese and the plant-based patty on an English muffin, which the company said has 29% less total fat, 33% less saturated fat and fewer calories, cholesterol and sodium than a traditional Dunkin' sausage, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich on a similar muffin.

To both celebrate the national launch and taste-persuade customers to try the offering, Dunkin' will give taste tests of the sandwich away Nov. 8-9 from 8 to 10 a.m. at its U.S. restaurants.

"Dunkin' is the brand that democratizes trends for America, and this latest addition to our menu gives consumers more choice to meet their evolving needs," Dunkin' Brands President and CEO Dave Hoffmann, said in the release. "As we continue to transform our brand, we're proud to use our platform to give everyone the opportunity to enjoy the great taste and benefits of plant-based protein."

The 61-year-old chain has more than 12,900 restaurants worldwide.
