Dunkin' and Sonic, part of the Inspire Brands portfolio, are continuing to make positive progress when it comes to sourcing of cage-free eggs.
The news comes as consumers are increasingly focused on brand sustainability strategies and months after another Inspire Brand company, Arby's, completed its transition to cage-free eggs in 2020.
Dunkin' has committed to eliminating caged eggs across its entire global supply chain, which includes 3,200 locations outside the U.S. and 1,600 in Asia, according to a statement provided by the non-profit Lever Foundation, a global animal protection organization. Dunkin', which was acquired by Inspire Brands in December 2020, provided an update on the effort on its sustainability page.
Other similar global pledges have been made over the past two months by other food brands including Krispy Kreme, Caribou Coffee and Au Bon Pain.
"We applaud Dunkin's commitment on this important animal welfare issue," Kirsty Tuxford, corporate engagement specialist at Lever Foundation, wrote in an email note.
The non-profit has worked with Dunkin's teams in the U.S .and Asia over the past year and a half on the commitment. "Ten of the world's 25 largest fast food chains have now pledged that they will not source caged eggs anywhere in their global supply chains, including throughout Asia," said Tuxford.
