A full year after Dunkin' initially introduced Matcha Lattes, it's putting the emphasis on the green beverages again, but this time with a tinge of blue. The company said in a news release that it was building up to the month known for the wearin' o' the green, with its green matcha-topped doughnut, along with a Blueberry Matcha Latte now available nationally.
The Blueberry Matcha Latte mixes Dunkin's sweetened Matcha green tea powder blend with blueberry flavor and a choice of milk, oatmilk or almond milk, served hot, iced or frozen through March 23. And DD Perks members get an extra incentive of twice the points (10 points per dollar rather than five) on any Matcha Latte purchase.
For an appropriately green and very Zen dunker in that drink, the chain is offering the matcha doughnut topped with Matcha powder for a green tea flavor. The brand said its Matcha green tea powder blend is produced in the Nishio region of Aichi prefecture, Japan. As compared to traditional green tea, where the tea leaves are steeped or brewed, Matcha is made by stone grinding young green tea leaf buds into a fine powder.
"Expanding our line of specialty drinks with Matcha Lattes last year created a whole new way to stay energized and refreshed at Dunkin'," Jill Nelson, Dunkin' vice president, Marketing & Culinary, said in the release. "This year, we're featuring one of our most popular drink combinations alongside our new Matcha Topped Donut to give guests even more options for enjoying this bright and delicious flavor in a uniquely Dunkin' way."
The brand also said it has added a stevia-based zero-calorie sweetener, call Stevia in the Raw, to its sweetener packet choices. Stevia is an ultra-sweet, plant-based form of sweetener that many appreciate for its natural source material.
Dunkin', which is now owned by Inspire Brands, is based in Connecticut and has more than 12,600 stores globally.
