El Pollo Loco comps, revenue increase

IRVINE, Calif. —EPL Intermediate Inc., parent company of El Pollo Loco Inc., has reported results for its 13-week second quarter and 26 weeks ended June 27, 2007.
Same-store sales for the system, including sales from both company-operated and franchised stores, increased 2.9 percent in the second quarter, with company-operated restaurant same-store sales increasing 1.8 percent and franchise restaurant same-store sales increasing 3.8 percent.
For the 26 weeks, same-store sales increased 2.9 percent, with company-operated restaurant comps increasing 1.6 percent and franchise restaurant comps increasing 3.9 percent.
The positive impact from a price increase taken at the beginning of the year and an increase in the average check more than compensated for transaction softness in the second quarter, the company reported.
El Pollo Loco reported operating revenues for the 13-week second quarter of $69.7 million, an increase of $3.8 million, or 5.8 percent, over operating revenues of $65.9 million for the same period last year. Operating revenues for the 26-week period were $136.5 million, an increase of $7.5 million, or 5.8 percent, over operating revenues of $129.0 million for the same time last year.
Net income for the second quarter of FY '07 was $1.4 million, compared with $1.2 million for the prior year quarter. Operating income for the 26-week period was $16.4 million, an increase of 0.9 percent over operating income of $16.3 million for the 26 weeks ended June 30, 2006.
