El Pollo Loco makes chicken sandwiches permanent offering
May 2, 2010
El Pollo Loco continues to expand its menu, this time with a chicken sandwich. The flame-grilled chicken chain has introduced the occasional chicken sandwich as a limited-time offering in the past, but now it's a permanent fixture.
The new sandwiches include the Guacamole Grilled Chicken Sandwich and the Jalapeno Grilled Chicken Sandwich. Both sandwiches begin with a citrus-marinated, grilled chicken breast placed on an authentic grilled telera roll (Mexican-style soft bread used for traditional torta sandwiches) andtopped with shredded lettuce and fresh Pico de Gallo.
From there, the sandwiches each take a distinctive twist. A generous helping of tasty guacamole completes the Guacamole Chicken Sandwich. Sliced jalapenos, Pepper Jack cheese and spicy Southwest sauce kick up the flavor of the Jalapeno Chicken Sandwich.
"There's certainly no shortage of chicken sandwiches on today's menus, which is why our team of culinary professionals wouldn't settle for anything less than extraordinary when creating sandwiches featuring our award-winning flame-grilled chicken," Karen Eadon, chief marketing officer for El Pollo Loco, said in a news release. "Our perseverance paid off. Our two new sandwiches truly pay homage to the chicken that put us on the map."
El Pollo Loco will support the new chicken sandwiches with new television spots targeting general audiences and Spanish language audiences in select West Coast markets beginning May 9. In addition to television advertising, a wide mix of point-of-purchase vehicles will be used, including banners, translites, window clings and drive-thru communication.
