Fla. Chick-fil-A organizes 'nurse-in' for breastfeeding mothers

August 16, 2009

The manager of a Winter Park, Fla., Chick-fil-A averted a public relations crisis by organizing a "nurse-in" after asking a nursing mother to cover her baby earlier in the week, according to a story on WESH in Orlando, Fla. Two male customers had complained about the breastfeeding mother, and the manager offered a kitchen towel to cover the baby, unaware of a Florida statue that allows breastfeeding in public.

The mother contacted the store and Chick-fil-A corporate to complain, followed by the manager's organizing the event for mothers and their babies as a goodwill measure. About 20 mothers and their babies attended the nurse-in to show support for nursing mothers in public places.
