Former McDonald's exec reflects on lessons learned
February 1, 2009
Paul Facella, a former regional vice president for McDonald's USA, has written a book to share the lessons learned from his involvement in the leadership of the No. 1 burger chain: "Everything I Know about Business I Learned At McDonald's."
Facella began his career at age 16 as a McDonald's crew member, working his way up to a store management position and then to the corporate level. After 34 years with the chain, he now operates a New York-based consulting firm.
The concept for the book began as a compilation of best management practices for his clients but evolved into an in-depth look at Facella's experiences with McDonald's as well as those of a number of the chain's former and current employees, executives and licensees interviewed for the McGraw-Hill publication.
"Everything I Know about Business I Learned at McDonald's" outlines seven leadership principles that have helped drive the chain to succeed: honesty and integrity, relationships, standards, lead by example, courage, communication and recognition.
Ed Rensi, former McDonald's president and CEO who spent 33 years with the company, introduces the book in the foreword.
The book is available at the suggested retail price of $24.95
