January 8, 2008

DURHAM, N.C. — Chick-fil-A founder and CEO Truett Cathy and his grandson, John White IV, will open the newest Chick-fil-A restaurant Jan. 10 in Durham, N.C., by giving away $26,000 in free Chick-fil-A food.

The new restaurant will give a one-year supply of Chick-fil-A Combo Meals (52 coupons) to the first 100 adults, age 18 and older with identification, in line by 6 a.m. at the stand-alone restaurant. The restaurant will open for business at 6:30 a.m.

The first 100 customers also will have a chance to meet several Cathy family members who will be in town for the opening. Truett Cathy and his three children — John's mother, Trudy Cathy White; Dan Cathy, president and chief operating officer of Chick-fil-A; and Bubba Cathy, senior vice president, will attend the ceremonies, as well as two of Cathy's 12 grandchildren who have begun their careers with Chick-fil-A.

White is relocating from Alpharetta, Ga., to operate the new restaurant.
