Doughnut chain, Krispy Kreme won praise this week from animal protection non-profit, Lever Foundation, for committing to use only cage-free eggs and egg ingredients in its locations worldwide. The fast casual chain, Au Bon Pain, also made a similar commitment, according to a news release.
"We are on pace to convert 75% of our global system and 100% of U.S. branded Sweet Treat products to cage-free by the end of 2021 (and) use 100% cage-free eggs globally by 2026," Krispy Kreme said on its websites.
More than 1,000 of Krispy Kreme's 1,400 stores are located outside of the U.S., including hundreds of locations in Asia, the brand said.
Krispy Kreme's announcement came just one week after its July 1 initial public offering on the Nasdaq exchange.
Animal protection non-profit, Lever Foundation, applauded the move. It operates across Asia, Europe, North America and Latin America.
In other news out of the Charlotte, North Carolina headquarters of Krispy Kreme, today the brand is offering $1 dozens deals to celebrate its 84th birthday, along with a special so-called BirthYAY doughnut, with that purchase.
The single BirthYAY sprinkle doughnut features special strawberry icing and sprinkles. The BirthYAY Dozen offer is available in stores and for online ordering with promocode: BIRTHYAY.
