Fresh from its acquisition last week by Fortress Investment Group LLC and Golden Child Holdings, Krystal is back up and fighting with a new menu item that might be emblematic of the tough fight the brand has had since it filed for bankruptcy in January and went up for sale.
The brand's new Hangover Krystal capitalizes on the QSR's repute with fresh-cracked egg concoction, with a combination featuring a steamed bun, patty, cheese, onion, bacon and the aforementioned fresh-cracked fried egg, a news release said.
"Krystal has long been famous as the go-to cure after a night of overindulgence," Angela Johnson, vice president of marketing at Krystal, said in the release. "The Hangover Krystal adds another twist to the classic Krystal template with a savory, freshly made fried egg that our guests are going to love on its own and to cure what ails them!"
Hangover Krystals are served all day at all locations as a sole menu item for $1.69 or as a meal with two Hangover Krystals and small tots for $3.99.
The 88-year-old burger-centered QSR was founded in Chattanooga, Tennessee, but is now headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. Krystal is a largely southern U.S. chain with 300 restaurants in 10 states.
