Cinco de Mayo this Tuesday is ushering in lots of Mexican-themed specials — this year geared toward the stay-at-home audience — at brands nationally, including DIY kits at brands like Taco Bell, as previously reported.
Meanwhile, at Del Taco, the brand's delivery deals comes with all the accoutrement for a proper May 5 celebration, including free Del Taco Cinco de Mayo-themed Zoom Backgrounds for virtual celebrations that are available beginning today at the brand's website, as well as Taco Night deals all day via takeout, drive-thru or delivery via the brand's app or Postmates, by using a code that will be shared via social media on May 5.
Then, at Denver-based, Taco Del Mar, the Cinco de Mayo festivities center on size, with the brand's five-pounder burrito challenge, which includes a behemoth burrito for phone order and pick-up that consists of four tortillas, two pounds of rice, a pound each of beans and meat, a quarter-pound of cheese and three-quarters of a pound of salsa, according to a release.
Those up for the challenge will have the chance to earn a spot on the "Taco Del Mar 5 Pounder Wall of Fame" if they finish the massive burrito in 30 minutes or less.
Participants will be charged the amount of the burrito at the time of the order and are then encouraged to commence the challenge at home where they can record a video or stream live on social media to document the feat. When a participant completes the challenge and submits their video (or photo), they will then be added to the TacoDelMar.com 5 Pounder Burrito Challenge Wall of Fame.
The brand also offers three Meal Kits To-Go for small groups– including build-your-own Nachos, Tacos, or Burritos. Kits come in two sizes – to serve four or eight -- and start at about $39.99 and $74.99, respectively.
