From burgers to pizza, it's all about the 'hot'

May 11, 2017

Two QSR brands are putting diners' hot and growing penchant for heat and spice front and center on their permanent menus with fiery offerings.

For sister brands, Carl's Jr. and Hardees, the latest offering is a shared menu item that doubles up on everything from the beef in the burgers to the heat in the peppers. The Jalapeño Double Cheeseburger features charbroiled beef patties, five jalapeño coins, two slices of Pepper Jack cheese, Santa Fe sauce, lettuce and tomato on a bun, according to a company press release.

"In most quick-service restaurant chains’ value burgers, there is no flavor, but our Jalapeño Double Cheeseburger packs a flavorful punch with its spicy combination of Jalapeños and Santa Fe sauce,' said the brands' CEO Jason Marker, in a news release. "I dare anyone to try this burger and not say ‘wow.’ It tastes incredible and is an amazing value at just $2.49."

Columbus-based Donatos said its LTO hot chicken sub and pizza LTOs at the brands' Nashville locations were so successful that this week it began offering the menu item at all locations.

Both feature hot chicken, Pepper Jack cheese, jalapenos, dill pickles and a drizzle of ranch dressing. Pizzas come in either thin, hand-tossed or gluten-free crusts.
