Golden Chick hatches Big & Golden entry in QSR chicken sandwich wars

May 22, 2020

This Monday, May 25, Texas-based Golden Chick is launching what it hopes is a new player in the chicken wars in its Big & Golden chicken sandwich at all 190 locations, including newly opened stores in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Waco, Texas, locations.

"We've been working on introducing a great chicken breast sandwich for some time," said Golden Chick President Jim Stevens who was just recently a guest on the QSRweb podcast discussing the brand's path forward. "As a Texas-born brand with a 50-plus-year heritage, we are thrilled to finally give our loyal and future guests a taste of what we are confident to be the best chicken sandwich on the market."

The sandwich includes a five-ounce hand-breaded deep fried chicken breast on five pickles and a layer of the brand's Lotta Zing sauce on a bun based on Golden Chick's hot yeast rolls.

"We wanted to include elements like the yeast roll bun and Lotta Zing sauce to the sandwich as they are unique to our brand," Executive Chef J. Sullivan said in the release. "We cannot wait to hear what our Golden Chick family thinks about the new addition."

The new entry into the hotly contested QSR chicken sandwich category is priced at $3.99 or $6.99 as a combo with fries and a drink. The 53-year-old QSR has stores in Texas, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Florida.
