The Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream and Yogurt franchise in Redondo Beach, Calif., generated $1 million in sales last year and owner Paul Danylik said it is on track to surpass that this year.

According to a news release, the business, which first opened in June 2010, has experienced 14-percent same-store sales growth year over year. In July, the store registered $125,000 in sales.

Danylik attributes the strong sales to the product and location. The store features a walk-up area and is within walking distance of four schools. Danylik said Handel’s Two Buck Tuesdays marketing campaign has also been effective in turning new customers into brand ambassadors.

“If you say, ‘It’s Two Buck Tuesday. Let’s go get some ice cream.’ Everybody knows that means to go to Handel’s,” he said in the release. “Over the years, I’ve tested out a variety of different specials every night of the week, but nothing compares to our Two Buck Tuesday business. We have lines wrapped around the building, 100-people deep.”
