Happy Independence Day weekend all! How about a beer-flavored burger to celebrate?

That's right, Carl's Jr. and Hardee's have been testing a new Budweiser Brew House Bacon Burger in locations in Los Angeles and Indianapolis. The tests are being run with an eye toward possibly featuring the boozy burger chain-wide in the future. 

A representative for CKE Restaurants, which owns the two brands, said the burger idea came as a way to duplicate the flavor of soft pretzels dipped in yeasty beer cheese, and gobbled up at a sports bar amidst drinking buddies. 

"There is beer added to the cheese sauce which gives it a bit of a hoppy taste," said Kate Franklin, of CKE's PR agency Coast Public Relations via email. "This burger is topped with Budweiser-flavored beer cheese, applewood-smoked bacon, grilled onions and fresh lettuce and tomato on a premium, brioche-style bun." 

Franklin refused to say how the burger is being received thus far, citing "competitive reasons." However she did say, "The results would have to meet or exceed the success norms/criteria we have established over the years based on which new menu items have performed the best in national roll-outs."
