January 10, 2007
CARPINTERIA, Calif. — Carl's Jr. and Hardee's, core brands in the CKE Restaurant portfolio, posted strong comparable-store sales gains in 2006.
According to a news release, comps at Hardee's rose 9.3 percent for the year, while comps at Carl's Jr. increased 5.6 percent. Both brands registered increases in 2005 as well.
"We attribute these strong gains to the appeal of our premium-quality product strategy and our cutting-edge advertising, particularly to the 'young, hungry guy' demographic, as well as our ability to continue to selectively enhance the Hardee's menu," said Andrew F. Puzder, president and chief executive officer of CKE Restaurants. "Going forward, our plan is to maintain our emphasis on innovative, premium-quality menu offerings as well as our premium-quality service initiatives."
Puzder credited several products with helping sales last year. Among those at Carl's Jr.: the Philly Cheesesteak Burger, the Mint Chip Hand-Scooped Ice Cream Shake and the Hillshire Farms Smoked Sausage Breakfast Sandwich. Hardee's got a boost from its Chili Cheese Thickburger and Chili Cheese Fries, as well as the Big Twin.
