Hardee's puts fried bologna on the breakfast menu

August 23, 2009

Hardee's has taken a popular Southern favorite, the fried bologna sandwich, and transformed it into a new breakfast item. The Oscar Mayer Fried Bologna Biscuit consists of a slice of melting American cheese and a folded egg atop a thick-cut slice of grilled Oscar Mayer bologna, all sandwiched between a signature Hardee's Made From Scratch biscuit.

Also, in a response to many customer requests, Hardee's will bring back its popular Hash Rounds as a side item.

Brad Haley, Hardee's executive vice president of marketing, said the idea for the new biscuit sandwich came from requests from several of the chain's southern franchisees. Hardee's initially was unsure how well the Southern staple would do outside of the region where it originated. But based on the popularity of another Southern favorite, the chicken biscuit, the company went forward with the test.

"So we gave them a try and were amazed by how great they tasted," Haley said in a news release. "The taste is pretty similar to that of grilled ham but with that special flavor you can only find in bologna. In fact, the Fried Bologna Biscuits received one of the highest consumer research scores we've ever seen in our market test and they sold exceptionally well."

The Oscar Mayer Fried Bologna Biscuit will be sold at participating Hardee's restaurants for $1.89 and is also available in a small combo for $3.59 including Hash Rounds or Country Potatoes and a beverage. Prices may vary by location.
