Hardee's puts jalapenos back on the menu

February 1, 2010

Hardee's is heating up its menu with the reintroduction of the Jalapeño Thickburger. The chain also borrowed from the previous success of this limited-time-only burger by spicing up its grilled chicken with the Jalapeño Chicken Sandwich.

The Jalapeño Thickburger was first introduced in August 2006 and returned temporarily to the menu in February 2008. The burger is available in three different sizes – Little (1/4 pound), Original (1/3 pound) and Six Dollar (nearly 1/2 pound).

The Jalapeño Thickburger and Chicken Sandwich features a charbroiled 100 percent Black Angus beef patty or charbroiled chicken breast fillet topped with sliced jalapeño peppers, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions and Santa Fe sauce on a seeded bun. The Jalapeño Thickburger will start at $2.59 or $4.49 for a small combo with Natural Cut Fries and beverage. The Jalapeño Chicken Sandwich is available for $$3.99 or $5.99 for a small combo.

With the Jalapeño Thickburger on the menu, Hardee's has retired the Big Hardee, a Big Mac imitation introduced after burger leader McDonald's added premium burgers to its lineup. Sister chain Carl's Jr. apparently had more success with the beefed-up clone. Carl's Jr. has made the Big Carl a permanent menu item "based on the fact that people love the burger and it has been selling really well," said company spokeswoman Kristen Harmony.
