San Francisco area Subway franchisees have dropped the popular $5 footlong deal, citing the "higher cost of doing business" in the city.
According to the San Francisco Weekly, signs have been spotted at units that say: "To all our valued customers: Due to higher cost of doing business in San Francisco, ALL SUBWAY Restaurants in SF County DO NOT PARTICIPATE in Subway national $5 promotions. Thank you for your understanding and support."
The exception is the $5 footlong of the month.
According to the story, the promotion abandonment was done in response to the city's minimum wage ordinance that raised the minimum wage from $9.92 in 2011 to $10.24 this year.
