Ice cream sandwich concept plans nationwide expansion

September 9, 2014

CREAM, a California-based ice cream sandwich concept, has announced plans to expand throughout the country. These plans follow the company's success in the San Francisco market, according to a news release.

The concept features a variety of combinations of ice cream and toppings built between two fresh-baked cookies. There are currently six franchises and two company-owned locations in the San Francisco area.

CREAM plans to grow its footprint through franchising and has signed deals for six new locations to open by the end of this year. The company plans to have 50 franchised units open by the end of 2015 and 100 new units annually starting in 2016.

"My wife's homemade ice cream sandwiches were always a neighborhood hit with the children. Inspired by the positive response, we opened our first CREAM location in 2010," Co-founder Jimmy Shamieh said in the release. "Enjoying an ice cream sandwich can allow everyone to reconnect with their inner child. We took that old favorite to the next level so that people of all ages and palates can enjoy an endless combination of cookies, ice cream flavors and toppings."

CREAM offers 20 ice cream flavors, 20 varieties of cookies and as many as 24 toppings. CREAM also offers four vegan and six gluten-free options. The brand also offers the "Cream Taco," a taco shell-shaped waffle cone, as well as milkshakes, floats, malts, ice cream scoops and other baked items.

In addition to in-store traffic, franchisees can add a catering platform, the release said.
