September 14, 2009
As Carl's Jr. and Hardee's fight it out with McDonald's over their premium burgers, Jack in the Box is joining the burger wars from the other end of the spectrum. For a limited time, Jack in the Box restaurants are offering the chain's Big Cheeseburger – also known in Texas as the Big Texas Cheeseburger – for $1 at participating restaurants.
The Big Cheeseburger features a jumbo beef patty topped with American and Swiss-style cheese, mayo and ketchup and is served on a jumbo bun. The Big Texas Cheeseburger features a jumbo beef patty topped with American cheese, mustard and pickles and is served on a jumbo bun.

Wendy's is also focusing on value, with its Web site featuring a promotion of four all-time favorites for 99 cent items for a limited time. The offer includes small chili, sour cream & chive baked potato, small original Frosty or the Double Stack, which also is on the chain's regular value menu and was part of the 3conomics campaign.
Hardee's yesterday launched its version of the McDonald's Big Mac, the Big Hardee. Sister chain Carl's Jr. launched the Big Carl last month as the chains try to remind consumers that they have featured premium burgers for years, while McDonald's is a newcomer — and a copycat — with its Angus Third Pounder line. Both Carl's Jr. and Hardee's are now offering a money back guarantee to any consumers not satisfied with the chains' Six Dollar Burgers or Thickburgers.
In Los Angeles, Carl's Jr. is taking the fight to the streets with a tailgate party near a local McDonald's, according to the Fast Food Maven blog in the Orange County Register. Celebrity JB Smoove will be hosting the event in which the Carl's Jr. mobile Star Diner will exchange the McDonald's Angus for a Six Dollar Burgers or a Big Mac for a Big Carl.
