The Jack in the Box National Franchise Association has recognized chairman and CEO Linda A. Lang with this year's Lifetime Achievement Award, presented at its annual conference held in Kona, Hawaii. Lang has been chairman and CEO of Jack in the Box Inc. since 2005, and was chosen in consideration of her service to the brand beginning in 1984.
Under Lang's leadership, Jack in the Box executed a refranchising strategy that has resulted in a transformation from a company-owned system to one that is largely franchisee-owned.
"Linda has been instrumental in growing the Jack in the Box system, bringing forth new opportunities for both existing and new franchise owners," said Anil Yadav, chairman of the National Franchise Association board of directors. "Linda has implemented strategies that have developed the brand and created a growth map for Jack in the Box. We are pleased to recognize Linda for her service to the Jack in the Box organization."
In addition to serving as chairman and CEO, Lang also serves on the board of the Jack in the Box Foundation, a non-profit organization that focuses the company's charitable donations to communities where Jack in the Box operates.
"It is an honor to receive this award," Lang said. "I have enjoyed working with the National Franchise Association through the years. I have every confidence that the brand, in concert with the NFA, will continue to grow and develop."
In August, Lang announced her retirement from the company, effective Jan. 1.
Chairman Award also presented
Additionally, the National Franchise Association has announced Dean Gordon as the recipient of this year's Chairman Award. The award recognizes individuals who "exhibit dedication to the Jack in the Box brand and its franchisee community."
Gordon and his team oversee the sourcing, contracting and distribution services for the Jack in the Box company-owned and franchised restaurants.
"As the vice president of Supply Chain Services, Dean has been able to work with suppliers to streamline distribution as well as lessen the impact of changing commodities costs," Yadav said. "The work Dean's team is responsible for is critical to franchise owners, and we are very pleased to recognize his contribution in this way."
Gordon joined Jack in the Box in 2009 as division vice president of purchasing. Prior, he was vice president of supply chain management for Potbelly Sandwich Works, based in Chicago. He also served as executive director of procurement with Applebee's International and vice president of supply chain management for Prandium Inc., operator of the El Torito, Chi-Chi's and Koo Koo Roo restaurant concepts.
