Jack in the Box is putting a player in the chicken sandwich fray, only this sandwich is not chicken at all. It's a plant-based item and is called the Unchicken sandwich, a news release said.

The company is testing the sandwich — made from a plant-based substitute filet from Raised & Rooted and served on a split-top bun, with mayonnaise, lettuce and tomato — in Reno, Nevada and Monterey, California. Customers may choose from classic and spicy varieties.

To promote the sandwich, Jack in the Box is giving customers a chance to snag a chicken-scented face mask at no cost by going online to jackinthebox.com/chickenfacemask beginning Oct. 23, until supplies run out.

Jack in the Box has over 2,000 locations.
