March 16, 2016

Former Subway spokesperson Jared Fogle was beaten by a fellow inmate in the recreation yard at Colorado's Englewood FCI on Jan. 29, according to a New York Post report. Sixty-year-old armed robber Steven Nigg, who is serving a sentence for gun charges, tackled Fogle and punched him in the face, leaving him with a bloody nose, swollen face and scratches on his neck, TMZ reported.

Nigg attacked Fogle after reaching his boiling point over the number of child sex predators housed in the low-security facility, his relatives told TMZ. He was punished for the assault with a stint in solitary confinement.

On Nov. 19, 2015, U.S. District Judge Tanya Walton Pratt sentenced Fogle to a prison term of more than 15 years today, accepting a plea deal that sees him admit to charges of receiving child pornography and repeatedly having sex with minors, QSRWeb.com reported.

The case involved interstate travel to pay minors for sex, as well as at least 400 child pornography videos. Fogle was sentenced to 188 months on each count, to be served concurrently. That amounts to just over 15 and a half years.

Fogle has been stress-eating in prison amid threats and taunts from fellow inmates who have called him "Chomo," short for child molester, and has gained about 30 pounds, according to the New York Post report. He also was recently slapped by an inmate who had called him a "dirty child rapist," a recently released prisoner said.

Fogle's earliest possible release date is July 11, 2029, according to the New York Post report.
