Jersey Mike's Subs opened its 50th store in the Los Angeles area this week. The new unit is located on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Hollywood and is the third for Jersey Mike's owner and former TV producer and agent Lloyd Weintraub.
The East Coast-style sub sandwich shop opened its first California store in 2003 in Camarillo and now has 27 individual storeowners employing nearly 600 team members in the L.A. area.
"Eight years ago, Dan Burrell, our L.A. area director and a former high school football rival of mine, convinced me that Californians would love the freshness of our subs sliced right in front of their eyes," said Peter Cancro, founder and CEO of Jersey Mike's Franchise Systems. "Opening this Hollywood Jersey Mike's store, our 50th in the area, indicates he was right."
To commemorate the unit's grand opening, Jersey Mike's is hosting a 5-day fundraiser through April 24 with proceeds supporting Hollywood High School. Anyone who has a fundraising coupon will receive a free regular size sub with a minimum $1 contribution. More than 10,000 coupons are being distributed throughout the community.
Jersey Mike's, which has more than 500 stores open and under development nationwide, is marking its 55th anniversary this year. The company started at the Jersey Shore in 1956.
