Jersey Mike's Subs is opening its first Manhattan location July 30, at 80 Maiden Lane on the corner of Gold Street. The new restaurant also marks the brand's entry into New York State.
A second location is expected to open at 56th and 3rd avenues in August.
"Jersey Mike's Subs can be found from coast to coast and now it's time to bring our authentic subs to one of the food capitals of the world: Manhattan. We think New Yorkers are going to love our fresh-sliced meats, cheeses and produce served our signature Mike's Way on fresh-baked bread," said Peter Cancro, founder and CEO.
To celebrate the opening, Jersey Mike's will host a free sub fundraiser through Aug. 4 to support Citymeals-on-Wheels, a non-profit organization that provides meals and companionship to homebound elderly New Yorkers.
The restaurant will circulate 23,000 vouchers and business cards throughout the community offering a free regular sub for a minimum $2 contribution to Citymeals-on-Wheels. Since 2010, Jersey Mike's locations throughout the country have raised nearly $7 million for local charities and distributed more than 500,000 free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes.
"We are dedicated to our customers and want this Jersey Mike's restaurant to truly feel like a social gathering place that our neighbors want to come visit every day," said Henry Gallo, Jersey Mike's area director and franchise owner.
According to Gallo, the Maiden Lane area of the Financial District is experiencing a resurgence residentially and commercially following the economic downturn and Hurricane Sandy. The 3,200 square foot restaurant will employ 35 to 55 team members.
While staying true to its Jersey Shore roots, the restaurant will be slightly tailored for an urban feel and offer additional lines to service the lunch rush efficiently. Additionally, the restaurant will feature a greeter or host. The unit will serve breakfast in addition to lunch and dinner, and in the coming months, add delivery service.
Jersey Mike's expects to open more than 100 restaurants nationally this year, with a big push in the Tri-State area. Technomic ranked Jersey Mike's the 3rd fastest-growing restaurant chain with sales above $200 million.
